Women Village Officials Discuss Rural Ageing Population
Female village officials discuss the rising ageing population in rural China at the fourth 100 Women Village Officials Forum in Beijing on December 18-19, 2012.
The fourth 100 Women Village Officials Forum was jointly held by China Women's News, Rural Women Magazine and the Cultural Development Center for Rural Women in Beijing on December 18-19, 2012, to discuss proposals to address the rising number of senior citizens in rural China.
The two-day forum was attended by 100 female village officials from 22 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions across the country.
Addressing the opening ceremony, President of China Women's News Huang Haiqun commended the efforts made by the women and their fellow village officials in the development of the rural economy and the exploration of methods to cope with the growing ageing population in rural China.
At the forum, President of the China Academy of Rural Planning and Design Li Changping, Deputy Director of the Social Policy Research Center under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Yang Tuan and several other experts held discussions with attendees and gave lectures related to the forum topic.
Also in attendance at the forum were representatives from the Ministry of Civil Affairs, China Merchants Charitable Foundation and the Cultural Development Center for Rural Women.
Launched in 2006, the forum aims to build a platform for female officials from rural China to discuss village-related topics with experts and share their experiences.
